Improved Purchase Request Process Leads to Greater Returns
Catalyst's expert Value Stream Mapping works to cut down lead time and reduce inventory costs.
Challenge
The APR (Advanced Purchase Request) cycle time created longer lead times and tied up revenue and inventory. Key members within the organization were not working together in an efficient manner and multiple system transactions meant longer queue times.
Solution
Catalyst utilized Value Stream Mapping to identify ways to reduce cycle time and align actions with goals. The best and worst case scenarios within the current process were analyzed and a new and improved plan to eliminate steps that hindered production was devised. Team responsibilities and task ownership were also better defined.
Results
Manufacturing lead time improved by nearly 8 days which enabled the team to focus on other important areas of the business including sales and quality management. Inventory reduction totaled roughly $17,000 and the new lean practices showed promise to continue to save money year-over-year.
