After seeing the results that Catalyst Associates was able to achieve in a nearby manufacturing operation, I contacted Tim Mason to learn more about the process that was used. It was immediately clear that Tim is a practitioner who is able to teach others the principles of the Toyota Production System as taught to him by experts in its application. I liked the process Tim described and felt his style and approach would work well with our team.

We started with the basics by following the week-long Kaizen format addressing specific areas in need of improvement. With every event that Catalyst has led, we've achieved dramatic improvements in productivity, inventory turns, and space utilization. The process is well organized and particularly effective at breaking down old habits and patterns of thinking that can get in the way of achieving immediate improvement. When questions or problems arise outside of scheduled visits, Tim is always responsive and willing to provide his insight and experience to the situation.

In addition to teaching tactical Lean tools such as 5S, standard work, and SMED, Catalyst helped us learn strategic tools such as Value Stream Mapping and Strategy Deployment. We're now able to drive improvement throughout the extended value stream on our own, with support and coaching from Catalyst when we run up against difficult issues. Working with Tim and his associates has absolutely been a critical success factor in starting and sustaining our Lean Journey.

You can read about value stream mapping, eliminating non value added work, or lean manufacturing most anywhere. However, these always seem to be oversimplified making it difficult for us to apply them to our circumstances. The Catalyst Associates system effectively teaches the lean fundamentals at a level that allowed us to understand, take action and follow through.
